Why Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) ?

Custom Home Builders in the U.S. can now use an innovative concrete material that Europeans adopted decades ago.

Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) is a precast, manufactured building stone made of all-natural raw materials.

Home Builders use it because it is an economical, environmentally friendly, cellular, lightweight, structural material that provides thermal and acoustic insulation as well as fire and termite resistance. AAC is available in a variety of forms, ranging from wall and roof panels to blocks and lintels. Although it has been a popular building material in Europe for over 50 years, AAC has only been introduced to the U.S. in the past few years.

Brant Custom Homes is currently building a AAC home near Houston TX, featuring AAC block used for exterior walls.

What is Green Home Building?

Many of us are looking at ways we can make our existing homes more energy efficient and you can find out about ways to do this within our home improvements section as well as within other parts of this site. This green home building page, however, is an overview of building a green or eco friendly home 'from scratch'. Green home building encompasses some topics which also relate to existing homes but also includes other areas.

If you are looking to build a new home, then green home building can significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the building process as well as ensure that the property is energy efficient when lived in. The Code for Sustainable Homes is a non-compulsory national standard designed to help improve sustainability within the building industry and is a good starting point if you wish to implement green home building. Our sustainable building page also gives more suggestions. Whether you are physically involved in the building process or employing others to build a home for you, you can influence whether sustainable methods and materials are used.

From using green building products to installing renewable energy, it is possible to build new homes with a minimal environmental impact. Visit the links immediately below for some relevant areas within our home improvements section, and check the green home building sitemap for other related topics.
